About Ms. Emily
Biography
Emily began her cello studies at age 10 with, Lu-Yan Guo. She credits his instruction during her early years as the inspiration to create a music studio where music was both fun and enjoyable. She began teaching when she was 14 years old and fell in love immediately. The sharing of knowledge and watching her students progress was motivation to focus on continuing her studies with cellist, Ruslan Biryukov. It was during her time with Mr. Biryukov she expanded her technique and musicianship; entering various competitions, joining the top youth orchestras, completing theory examinations and chamber music.
In 2012, Emily was granted a full scholarship to attend California State University, Fullerton to pursue her Bachelor's of Music with cellist Bongshin Ko. At CSU Fullerton, Emily grew tremendously and was able to travel the World performing solo, chamber and orchestra music in Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Austria, Luxembourg, South Korea and New York City. In 2015, she made her Carnegie Hall Debut performing the works of modern composer, Tarik O'Reagan. She has also had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses of notable cellists, Misha Maisky, Richard Aaron, Clive Greensmith and Alexander Rudin.
Since 2008, Emily has been growing her cello studio in San Diego. Her students have earned top chairs in their school orchestras and youth orchestras. They have competed and won first place prizes in local competitions and performed across the county. She is known to have patience but demands the highest musicianship in her students.
Emily plays on a Tyrolian cello from the 1820's nicknamed "Antonin" after the fake label inside of the maker "Dworak." Besides cello playing, Emily enjoys reading, baking, crafting and spending time outside with her cats.
